Day 1 – Introduction to Plants

Learning Objectives

  • Students understand what plants are and why they are important.
  • Students identify different types of plants.

Concepts

  • Plants give us oxygen, food, shade, and medicines.
  • Types of plants:
    • Trees – big, tall, strong trunk (mango, neem)
    • Shrubs – small, bushy plants (rose, hibiscus)
    • Herbs – soft stems, small plants (mint, coriander)

Activities

  • Plant Walk/Visual Tour: Show pictures of trees, shrubs, herbs.
  • Sorting Activity: Students sort plants into the three categories.

Materials

  • Flashcards or real plant pictures
  • Chart paper

Assessment

  • Ask: “Is mint a herb or a shrub?” “Which plant is very tall?”

Day 2 – Parts of a Plant

Learning Objectives

  • Students identify the main parts of a plant.

Concepts

  • Root – holds the plant and absorbs water
  • Stem – supports the plant and carries water
  • Leaves – make food
  • Flowers – help the plant make seeds/fruit
  • Fruit – contains seeds

Activities

  • Draw and Label:
    Students draw a plant and label: root, stem, leaf, flower.
  • Real Plant Observation:
    Show a potted plant and point out its parts.

  • Label a given plant diagram.

Day 3 – Functions of Plant Parts

Learning Objectives

  • Students learn what each plant part does.

Concepts

  • Roots drink water.
  • Stem carries water to leaves.
  • Leaves make food using sunlight.
  • Flowers grow into fruits.

Activities

  • Matching Game:
    • Root → absorbs water
    • Leaf → makes food
    • Flower → becomes fruit
  • Leaf Printing Art:
    Students apply paint on leaves and print on paper.

Day 4 – What Plants Need to Grow

Learning Objectives

  • Students understand that plants need air, water, sunlight, and soil to grow.

Plants need:

  • Water
  • Sunlight
  • Air
  • Soil

Activities

  • Growing Seeds in Cotton:
    • Give students cotton, a bowl, and moong/rajma seeds.
    • Students place seeds in wet cotton and observe daily.
  • Sunlight vs. No Sunlight Experiment (teacher demo):
    Keep one plant in sunlight and one in a dark cupboard.

  • Cotton

  • Small cups/bowls

Assessment

  • Ask: “What happens if a plant gets no sunlight?”
  • Students list what plants need.

Day 5 – Review + Plant Activities

Learning Objectives

  • Students revise plant parts, plant types, and plant needs.

    Students assemble cut pieces of a plant diagram.
  • Flashcard Quiz:
    Teacher shows parts → students name function.
  • My Favorite Plant Drawing:
    Students draw their favorite plant and label parts.
