Students: India. /

Teacher: Is India a very small country or a large country?

Teacher then shows a political map of India.

Ask:

“Can one government office manage every small area of such a large country directly?”

Explain:

India is a large country. For easier administration, it is divided into different States and Union Territories.

A Union Territory (UT) is another type of administrative division of India that is governed mainly by the Union Government.

8. Political Map of India /

Explain the map:

  • Different colours represent different states.
  • Lines show boundaries between states.
  • State names are written inside their boundaries.
  • Capitals are usually marked separately.
  • Union Territories are also shown on the political map.

Different colours on a map do not mean that the states are different countries.
