A verb is a word that shows an action, occurrence, or state of being.

Verb वह शब्द है जो किसी कार्य, घटना या स्थिति को दर्शाता है।

Day 2: Types of Verbs (क्रिया के प्रकार)

There are mainly three types of verbs:

  1. Action Verbs (कार्यवाचक क्रिया)
  2. Helping Verbs (सहायक क्रिया)
  3. Linking Verbs (जोड़ने वाली क्रिया)

1. Action Verbs (कार्यवाचक क्रिया)

These verbs show actions done by someone.

जो क्रियाएँ किसी कार्य को दर्शाती हैं उन्हें Action Verbs कहते हैं।

Examples:

  • Jump
  • Dance
  • Read
  • Cook
  • Swim

Sentences:

  • The child jumps high.
  • Mother cooks food.

2. Helping Verbs (सहायक क्रिया)

Helping verbs help the main verb to complete its meaning.

Helping verbs मुख्य क्रिया की सहायता करती हैं।

Examples:

  • is
  • am
  • are
  • was
  • were
  • has
  • have
  • will

Sentences:

  • She is reading.
  • They are playing.

3. Linking Verbs (जोड़ने वाली क्रिया)

These verbs connect the subject with information about it.

ये क्रियाएँ कर्ता को उसके बारे में जानकारी से जोड़ती हैं।

Examples:

  • is
  • am
  • are

  • He is a teacher.
  • The flower is beautiful.

Day 3: Transitive and Intransitive Verbs

सकर्मक और अकर्मक क्रिया

1. Transitive Verbs (सकर्मक क्रिया)

A verb that needs an object to complete its meaning is called a transitive verb.

जिस क्रिया के साथ कर्म (Object) की आवश्यकता होती है उसे सकर्मक क्रिया कहते हैं।

Examples:

  1. She writes a letter.
    (writes what? → a letter)
  2. He eats an apple.

2. Intransitive Verbs (अकर्मक क्रिया)

A verb that does not need an object is called an intransitive verb.

जिस क्रिया के साथ कर्म की आवश्यकता नहीं होती उसे अकर्मक क्रिया कहते हैं।

Examples:

  1. Birds fly.
  2. The baby cries.

Regular Verbs (नियमित क्रिया)

Examples:

  • Go → Went
  • Come → Came
  • See → Saw
