Previous Knowledge
Ask students:
- How do you open a door?
- What happens when you kick a football?
- What helps a fan rotate?
- Why does a toy car move when pushed?
Introduction (5–10 Minutes)
Place a ball on the table.
Ask a student to push it.
Then ask another student to pull a toy using a string.
Explain:
When we push or pull an object, we apply a force.
Ask:
"What makes the ball move?"
Explain:
The ability to do work is called energy.
Study Material
What is Force?
English
Force is a push or a pull that can change the state of an object.
Force can:
- Move a stationary object.
- Stop a moving object.
- Change the speed of an object.
- Change the direction of motion.
- Change the shape of an object.
Examples
- Opening a door
- Kicking a football
- Pulling a suitcase
- Pushing a shopping cart
- Stretching a rubber band
Types of Force (बल के प्रकार)
1. Push (धक्का)
English
A push moves an object away from us.
Examples:
- Closing a door
- Pushing a trolley
- Moving a chair
2. Pull (खींच)
English
A pull brings an object towards us.
Examples:
- Opening a drawer
- Pulling a bucket from a well
- Pulling a suitcase
Special Types of Forces
A. Gravity (गुरुत्वाकर्षण बल)
English
Gravity is the force that pulls all objects towards the Earth.
Examples:
- Fruits fall from trees.
- Rain falls to the ground.
- We remain on the ground instead of floating.
B. Friction (घर्षण बल)
English
Friction is the force that opposes motion when two surfaces rub against each other.
Examples:
- Walking without slipping.
- Brakes stopping a bicycle.
- Writing with a pencil.
C. Magnetic Force (चुंबकीय बल)
English
A magnet attracts iron and some other metals.
Examples:
- Refrigerator magnets
- Compass
What is Energy?
English
Energy is the ability to do work or make things happen.
Without energy, no living thing or machine can work.
Forms of Energy (ऊर्जा के रूप)
1. Mechanical Energy (यांत्रिक ऊर्जा)
Energy used to move objects.
Examples:
- Bicycle
- Wind-up toy
- Swing
2. Heat Energy (ऊष्मा ऊर्जा)
Produces warmth.
Examples:
- Sun
- Fire
- Gas stove
3. Light Energy (प्रकाश ऊर्जा)
Helps us see.
Examples:
- Sun
- Bulb
- Torch
4. Sound Energy (ध्वनि ऊर्जा)
Produced by vibrating objects.
Examples:
- Bell
- Drum
- Speaker
5. Electrical Energy (विद्युत ऊर्जा)
Runs electrical appliances.
Examples:
- Fan
- Television
- Refrigerator
- Computer
6. Chemical Energy (रासायनिक ऊर्जा)
Stored in food, fuels, and batteries.
Examples:
- Food
- Petrol
- Diesel
- Battery
Sources of Energy (ऊर्जा के स्रोत)
Renewable Sources (नवीकरणीय स्रोत)
These can be used again and again.
- Sun (Solar Energy)
- Wind
- Water
- Biomass
Non-Renewable Sources (अनवीकरणीय स्रोत)
These are limited and take millions of years to form.
- Coal
- Petroleum
- Natural Gas
Importance of Energy (ऊर्जा का महत्व)
English
Energy is needed for:
- Cooking
- Travelling
- Studying
- Running machines
- Lighting homes
- Growing plants (sunlight)
Conservation of Energy (ऊर्जा संरक्षण)
English
We should:
- Switch off lights and fans when not in use.
- Use LED bulbs.
- Walk or cycle for short distances.
- Use solar energy whenever possible.
- Avoid wasting fuel.
Difference Between Force and Energy
Force
Energy
A push or pull
Ability to do work
Changes the motion of objects
Makes work possible
Measured in newton (advanced concept)
Measured in joule (advanced concept)
Example: Pushing a box
Example: Electricity
Note for Grade V: Introduce the names newton and joule only as information. Detailed calculations are not required.
