Tell students:

Everything around us is made of matter. Matter exists in three different states: solid, liquid, and gas.

Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space.

Everything we can see, touch, or feel is made of matter.

1. Solid (ठोस)

English

A solid has a fixed shape and a fixed volume.

The particles are packed very closely together, making solids hard and strong.

2. Liquid (द्रव)

Liquids have a fixed volume but no fixed shape.

They take the shape of the container in which they are kept.

  • Difficult to compress

3. Gas (गैस)

English

Gases have neither a fixed shape nor a fixed volume.

They spread in all directions and fill the entire container.

Changes in States of Matter (अवस्था परिवर्तन)

1. Melting (गलना)

English

When a solid is heated, it changes into a liquid.

Example:

Ice → Water

ऊष्मा देने पर ठोस पदार्थ द्रव में बदल जाता है।

2. Freezing (जमना)

English

When a liquid is cooled, it changes into a solid.

Example:

Water → Ice

3. Evaporation (वाष्पीकरण)

English

When a liquid is heated, it changes into a gas.

Example:

4. Condensation (संघनन)

English

When a gas is cooled, it changes into a liquid.

  • Water is used for drinking, cooking, and cleaning.
  • Oxygen helps us breathe.
  • LPG gas is used for cooking.
  • Steam helps run some machines.
