Theme: Staying Safe

Duration: 5 Days (35–40 minutes each)

Day 1 – Introduction to Safety

Learning Objectives

  • Students understand what safety means.
  • Students learn basic safety rules at home.

Concepts

  • Safety keeps us away from harm.
  • Home safety rules:
    • Do not play with sharp objects.
    • Do not touch electrical switches.
    • Do not play near the stove.
    • Ask an adult for help.

Activities

  • Safety Picture Discussion:
    Show pictures of home dangers; ask students what is safe/unsafe.
  • Role-Play:
    “What would you do if you see a knife on the floor?”

Materials

  • Safety picture cards
  • Chart of home safety rules

Assessment

  • Students point out safe and unsafe behaviours in pictures.

Day 2 – School Safety Rules

Learning Objectives

  • Students identify safe practices in school.

Concepts

  • School safety rules:
    • Walk, don’t run in corridors.
    • Use stairs carefully.
    • Do not push or pull friends.
    • Follow teacher’s instructions.

Activities

  • Classroom Walk Activity:
    Students practice walking safely in line.
  • Scenario Role-Play:
    • What to do if someone falls?
    • Why shouldn’t we run on stairs?

Materials

  • Safety posters
  • Scenario cards

Assessment

  • Ask students to list 2 school safety rules.

Day 3 – Road Safety Rules

Learning Objectives

  • Students learn basic rules for crossing the road.
  • Students understand traffic signals.

Concepts

  • Traffic Lights:
    • Red → Stop
    • Yellow → Wait
    • Green → Go
  • Pedestrian crossing (zebra crossing).
  • Walk on the footpath.

Activities

  • Traffic Light Simulation Game:
    Teacher acts as signal; students walk, stop, or wait.
  • Road Safety Drawing:
    Students draw a zebra crossing and traffic light.

Materials

  • Coloured cards (red, yellow, green)
  • Toy vehicles (optional)

Assessment

  • Ask: “What should you do when the light turns red?”

Day 4 – Basic First Aid

Learning Objectives

  • Students understand what first aid is.
  • Students learn simple care for cuts and bruises.

Concepts

  • First aid is the help we give before a doctor arrives.
  • For cuts:
    • Wash with clean water
    • Apply antiseptic
    • Use a bandage
  • For bruises:
    • Apply ice pack

Activities

  • First Aid Box Demonstration:
    Show items: bandage, cotton, antiseptic, scissors, tape.
  • Pretend Play:
    Students pretend to bandage a dummy or teddy.

Materials

  • Real or toy first aid box
  • Cotton, bandages, antiseptic bottle (closed), ice pack

Assessment

  • Students identify 3 things in a first aid box.

Day 5 – Emergency Information + Review

Learning Objectives

  • Students learn important emergency numbers.
  • Students revise safety and first aid concepts.

Concepts

  • Emergency numbers (India):
    • 100 – Police
    • 101 – Fire
    • 102 – Ambulance
  • Tell name, address, and phone number to a trusted adult.

Activities

  • Emergency Call Practice (Pretend):
    Students practice saying:
    “My name is ___. I need help. My address is ___.”
  • Safety Rules Quiz:
    Picture-based quiz: home safety, road safety, school safety.
  • Sorting Game:
    Students sort actions into “Safe” and “Not Safe.”

Materials

  • Safety flashcards
  • Emergency number chart

Assessment

  • Students recognize and name safety rules.
  • Quick oral test: “What number do we call for a fire?”

Homework

  • Draw three safety rules you follow at home.
