DAY 1: Introduction to Multiplication

Learning Objective

Students will understand multiplication as repeated addition.

Introduction Activity (प्रस्तावना)

Teacher shows:

🍎🍎🍎
🍎🍎🍎
🍎🍎🍎

There are:

  • 3 groups
  • 3 apples in each group

Ask:

How many apples are there?

Students add:

3 + 3 + 3 = 9

Explain:

Instead of adding repeatedly, we can write:

3 × 3 = 9

Study Material

What is Multiplication?

English

Multiplication means adding the same number again and again.

Example:

4 + 4 + 4 = 12

This can be written as:

4 × 3 = 12

Here:

  • 4 and 3 are called factors.
  • 12 is called the product.

4 × 3 = 12

Activity

Students make groups using counters.

Example:

5 groups of 2 objects

2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 10

2 × 5 = 10

Class Practice

Write multiplication form:

  1. 3 + 3 + 3 = ___
  2. 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = ___
  3. 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = ___

DAY 2: Multiplication Tables and Arrays

Concept Explanation

An array shows multiplication using rows and columns.

Example:

⭐ ⭐ ⭐
⭐ ⭐ ⭐

2 rows × 3 stars

= 2 × 3 = 6

Tables Practice

Students learn:

2 times table
3 times table
4 times table
5 times table

Activity

Teacher gives buttons/beads.

Students make:

4 groups of 5

4 × 5 = 20

Practice Questions

  1. 3 × 4 = _____
  2. 5 × 6 = _____
  3. 7 × 2 = _____
  4. 8 × 3 = _____

DAY 3: Multiplication of 2-Digit Numbers by 1-Digit Number

Concept Explanation

Example:

   23 ×   4 ------   92

Steps:

4 × 3 = 12

Write 2 and carry 1.

4 × 2 = 8 + 1 = 9

Answer = 92

Activity

Students solve using place value chart.

Example:

34 × 3

Practice Questions

  1. 21 × 4 = _____
  2. 32 × 5 = _____
  3. 45 × 3 = _____
  4. 26 × 6 = _____

DAY 4: Properties of Multiplication

1. Commutative Property

Changing the order does not change the product.

Example:

3 × 5 = 15

5 × 3 = 15

2. Multiplication by Zero

Any number multiplied by zero gives zero.

Example:

25 × 0 = 0

3. Multiplication by One

Any number multiplied by one remains the same.

Example:

35 × 1 = 35

Activity

Students verify multiplication properties using number cards.

DAY 5: Multiplication Word Problems (शब्द समस्याएँ)

Steps to Solve

  1. Read the question.
  2. Identify equal groups.
  3. Use multiplication.
  4. Find the answer.

Example 1

There are 6 boxes. Each box has 8 pencils.

How many pencils are there in total?

Solution:

6 × 8 = 48

Answer:
There are 48 pencils.

Real-Life Applications (जीवन में उपयोग)

Multiplication is used in:

  • Counting money
  • Counting groups of objects
  • Finding total items
  • Calculating repeated quantities

Examples:

5 packets × 10 biscuits = 50 biscuits

Classroom Activities

Activity 1: Multiplication Race

Students solve:

  1. 6 × 7
  2. 8 × 9
  3. 5 × 12

Activity 2: Make Groups

Students create equal groups using classroom objects.
