DAY 1: Introduction to Division
Learning Objective
Students will understand division as equal sharing.
Introduction Activity (प्रस्तावना)
Teacher has:
12 chocolates
Ask:
"If we share 12 chocolates equally among 4 students, how many chocolates will each student get?"
Students distribute:
🍫 🍫 🍫
🍫 🍫 🍫
🍫 🍫 🍫
🍫 🍫 🍫
Each student gets:
3 chocolates
Write:
12 ÷ 4 = 3
Study Material
What is Division?
English
Division means sharing a number into equal groups or finding how many times one number is contained in another number.
The symbol used for division is ÷.
Example:
12 ÷ 4 = 3
Here:
- 12 is called Dividend.
- 4 is called Divisor.
- 3 is called Quotient.
12 ÷ 4 = 3
Activity
Students take 15 counters.
Divide them into 5 equal groups.
15 ÷ 5 = 3
Class Practice
Solve:
- 10 ÷ 2 = ___
- 15 ÷ 3 = ___
- 20 ÷ 4 = ___
- 18 ÷ 6 = ___
DAY 2: Division as Repeated Subtraction
Concept Explanation
Division can also be done by repeated subtraction.
Example:
15 ÷ 3
15 − 3 = 12
12 − 3 = 9
9 − 3 = 6
6 − 3 = 3
3 − 3 = 0
Number of times we subtract 3:
5 times
Therefore:
15 ÷ 3 = 5
15 ÷ 3 = 5
Activity
Students use number line.
Example:
20 ÷ 5
Make jumps of 5.
Practice Questions
- 12 ÷ 2 = ___
- 24 ÷ 6 = ___
- 30 ÷ 5 = ___
- 35 ÷ 7 = ___
DAY 3: Division Without Remainder
Concept Explanation
When a number divides completely, there is no remainder.
Example:
4 ---- 4 ) 16 16 ---- 0
16 ÷ 4 = 4
Steps of Division
- Divide.
- Multiply.
- Subtract.
- Bring down.
Practice Questions
- 24 ÷ 3
- 36 ÷ 4
- 45 ÷ 5
- 56 ÷ 7
DAY 4: Division With Remainder
Concept Explanation
Sometimes a number cannot be divided equally. The remaining number is called remainder.
Example:
13 ÷ 4
4 × 3 = 12
13 − 12 = 1
So:
13 ÷ 4 = 3 remainder 1
Terms
Dividend = 13
Divisor = 4
Quotient = 3
Remainder = 1
Activity
Give students 14 pencils.
Ask:
Divide among 3 children.
Each gets 4 pencils.
2 pencils remain.
14 ÷ 3 = 4 R 2
Practice Questions
Find quotient and remainder:
- 17 ÷ 5
- 22 ÷ 4
- 29 ÷ 6
- 35 ÷ 8
DAY 5: Division Word Problems (शब्द समस्याएँ)
Steps to Solve
- Read the question.
- Find total objects.
- Find number of groups.
- Divide.
Example 1
24 apples are shared equally among 6 children.
How many apples will each child get?
Solution:
24 ÷ 6 = 4
Answer:
Each child gets 4 apples.
Real-Life Applications (जीवन में उपयोग)
Division is used in:
- Sharing food
- Distributing money
- Dividing students into groups
- Sharing objects equally
Examples:
40 sweets ÷ 8 children = 5 sweets each
Classroom Activities
Activity 1: Equal Sharing Game
Students divide objects equally among groups.
Activity 2: Division Relay
Teams solve division problems one by one.
