Teaching Aids (शिक्षण सामग्री)

  • Weighing machine (वजन मापने की मशीन)
  • Balance scale (तराजू)
  • Objects like fruits, books, bags
  • Weight conversion chart
  • Worksheets

Previous Knowledge (पूर्व ज्ञान)

Students know:

  • Counting numbers
  • Comparison (heavier/lighter)
  • Basic measurement concepts

Day 1: Introduction to Weight

Activity: Heavy and Light Objects

Teacher shows:

  • A book
  • A pencil
  • A school bag
  • A water bottle

Ask:

Which object is heavier?

Which object is lighter?

Students compare objects.

Teacher explains:

To know how heavy an object is, we measure its weight.

Study Material: Weight (वजन)

Definition:

English:
Weight is the measurement of how heavy or light an object is.

Units of Weight (वजन की इकाइयाँ)

The standard units of weight are:

Unit

Symbol

Use

Milligram

mg

Very light objects

Gram

g

Small objects

Kilogram

kg

Heavy objects

Quintal

q

Large quantities

Tonne

t

Very heavy objects

Examples:

  • Weight of a pencil = 10 g
  • Weight of an apple = 200 g
  • Weight of a school bag = 5 kg
  • Weight of a truck = tonnes

Important Conversion (महत्वपूर्ण परिवर्तन)

1000 milligrams (mg) = 1 gram (g)

1000 grams (g) = 1 kilogram (kg)

100 kilograms (kg) = 1 quintal (q)

1000 kilograms (kg) = 1 tonne (t)

Classroom Practice:

Fill in the blanks:

  1. 1000 g = ______ kg
  2. 100 kg = ______ q
  3. 1000 kg = ______ t

Day 2: Measuring Weight (वजन मापना)

Tools Used for Measuring Weight

  1. Balance Scale (तराजू)
    Used to compare weights.
  2. Weighing Machine (वजन मशीन)
    Used to measure exact weight.

Example:

A bag weighs 4 kg.

It means:

The mass of the bag is equal to 4 kilograms.

Activity:

Estimate and measure:

Object

Estimated Weight

Actual Weight

Pencil

Book

School Bag

Water Bottle

Day 3: Conversion of Weight Units

Bigger Unit to Smaller Unit

Rule:

Multiply when converting a bigger unit into a smaller unit.

Example:

1 kg = 1000 g

5 kg = 5 × 1000

= 5000 g

More Examples:

3 kg = 3000 g

7 kg = 7000 g

Smaller Unit to Bigger Unit

Rule:

Divide when converting smaller unit into bigger unit.

Example:

4000 g = 4000 ÷ 1000

= 4 kg

Practice:

Convert:

  1. 8 kg = ______ g
  2. 6000 g = ______ kg
  3. 12 kg = ______ g
  4. 9000 g = ______ kg

Day 4: Addition and Subtraction of Weight

Addition of Weight

Example:

Add:

5 kg 250 g + 3 kg 400 g

  5 kg 250 g + 3 kg 400 g --------------  8 kg 650 g

Subtraction of Weight

Example:

8 kg 500 g - 3 kg 200 g

  8 kg 500 g - 3 kg 200 g --------------  5 kg 300 g

Word Problems (शब्द समस्याएँ)

Question 1:

A shopkeeper has 5 kg of rice and 3 kg of wheat. Find the total weight.

Solution:

5 kg + 3 kg = 8 kg

Answer: 8 kg

Question 2:

A fruit seller had 10 kg of apples. He sold 4 kg. How much apple is left?

Solution:

10 kg - 4 kg = 6 kg

Answer: 6 kg

Day 5: Application and Revision

  1. Buying and selling food items
