Why Do We Measure?

Measurement helps us to know the exact length, distance, height, or size of an object.

Without standard measurement, confusion may arise because everyone's hand span or foot length is different.

Important Conversions

  • 10 millimetres = 1 centimetre

Measuring Length Correctly

Steps

  1. Place the ruler along the object.
  2. Keep the zero mark at the starting point.
  3. Read the measurement at eye level.
  4. Record the answer with the correct unit.

Precautions

  • Do not start from a broken edge of the ruler.
  • Keep the ruler straight.
  • Use appropriate units.

Motion (गति)

English

Motion is the change in the position of an object with time.

समय के साथ किसी वस्तु की स्थिति में परिवर्तन गति कहलाता है।

Types of Motion

1. Rectilinear Motion (सरल रेखीय गति)

Movement in a straight line.

Examples:

  • Car on a straight road
  • Train on a straight track
  • Student walking in a corridor

2. Circular Motion (वृत्तीय गति)

Movement along a circular path.

Examples:

  • Ceiling fan
  • Clock hands
  • Merry-go-round
  • Ferris wheel

3. Periodic Motion (आवर्ती गति)

Motion repeated at equal intervals of time.

Examples:

  • Pendulum
  • Swing
  • Clock pendulum
  • Earth revolving around the Sun

4. Rotational Motion (घूर्णन गति)

An object rotates about its own axis.

Examples:

  • Spinning top
  • Earth rotating on its axis
  • Potter's wheel

Uniform and Non-uniform Motion

Uniform Motion (समान गति)

An object covers equal distances in equal intervals of time.

Examples:

  • A train moving at constant speed.
  • Conveyor belt in a factory.

Non-uniform Motion (असमान गति)

An object covers unequal distances in equal intervals of time.

Examples:

  • A bus moving in city traffic.
  • A cyclist on a hilly road.

Students measure:
