PERIOD 3: TYPES OF FAMILY

Topic: Nuclear, Joint and Extended Family

Explain that families can have different sizes and structures.

There is no single family structure that is suitable for everyone.

A. Nuclear Family

A community is a group of people who live in the same area or share common interests, activities, occupations, traditions or goals.

People in a community depend on one another and work together for common needs.

Features of a Community

1. People

A community consists of a group of people.

TYPES OF COMMUNITY

A. Rural Community

A rural community is generally found in villages and surrounding areas.

PERIOD 7: SEWA – SELF-EMPLOYED WOMEN'S ASSOCIATION

Introduction

SEWA stands for Self-Employed Women's Association.

It is a trade union organisation working with women who are self-employed, particularly women working in the informal economy.

SEWA was founded in 1972 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, by Ela Bhatt.

SEWA का पूरा नाम Self-Employed Women's Association (स्व-नियोजित महिला संघ) है।

PERIOD 8: CHIPKO MOVEMENT

Introduction

English

The Chipko Movement was an environmental movement associated with the protection of forests.

It became especially well known in the 1970s in the Himalayan region of present-day Uttarakhand.

The word Chipko means “to hug” or “to cling.”

चिपको आंदोलन भारत में वनों की रक्षा से जुड़ा एक पर्यावरण आंदोलन था।

When trees were marked for cutting, local people protested by embracing or holding onto trees.

This made it difficult for the trees to be cut.

PERIOD 9: VAN DHAN VIKAS YOJANA

Introduction

English

Van Dhan Vikas Yojana is an initiative aimed at supporting tribal communities, particularly tribal gatherers and producers of minor forest produce.

It was launched in 2018 under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and is implemented through TRIFED.

वन धन विकास योजना जनजातीय समुदायों, विशेष रूप से लघु वनोपज एकत्र करने वाले और उनका उत्पादन करने वाले लोगों की सहायता के उद्देश्य से शुरू की गई एक पहल है।

PERIOD 10: KERALA FLOODS – 2018

Topic: Fishermen's Rescue Operation

In 2018, Kerala experienced severe floods following unusually heavy rainfall.

Many areas were flooded and people needed urgent assistance.

Fishermen from Kerala played an important role in rescue operations.

They brought their boats and used their knowledge of water and local areas to help rescue people.

They:

  • Took boats into flooded areas.
  • Rescued stranded people.
  • Helped elderly people and children.
  • Transported people to safer places.
  • Helped transport essential supplies.

Introduction

On 26 January 2001, a powerful earthquake struck Gujarat, particularly affecting the Kutch region.

Effects

The earthquake caused:

  • Loss of many lives.
  • Injuries.
  • Destruction of houses and buildings.
  • Damage to roads.
  • Damage to schools and other infrastructure.
