English

Every society needs rules, institutions and people who make decisions and provide public services. The system through which a country is governed is called government.

India is a democracy. This means that people have an important role in choosing their representatives and participating in public life.

Government in India works at different levels and through different organs. This arrangement helps distribute power and prevents too much power from being concentrated in one place.
